A good rug is one of the quickest ways to upgrade your dorm room from its standard factory settings. It can add elements of your style and personality without taking up valuable storage space. It can help make your room extra comfortable and warm — especially if your dorm has cold concrete or tile flooring. Plus, it can act as a lovely noise buffer between your 2 a.m. dance parties and your downstairs neighbors who are trying to sleep.

But the mighty power of a rug often comes with a mighty price tag. Case in point: After getting served constant targeted ads on TikTok for an adorable rug, I finally caved and tapped the link to check it out. To my dismay, I discovered the rug was  priced at $115 … for the small, 2×3-foot size! (For reference, that’s roughly the size of a standard poster board.)

If you love a good rug but aren’t looking to shell out so much cash for one, have no fear. There are plenty of larger rugs out there that retail for under $100 and span all the most popular decor aesthetics.

TJ Maxx

These shades of washed gray and blue are shore to match your coastal grandma aesthetic. This rug is quite large for its price and could cover some serious ground: An average dorm room size is about 12x15 feet. When you add two twin beds and a couple of desks, you're left with roughly 6x9 feet of usable floor space. So yes, this rug is big enough to transform your whole room.
