Every day I wake up only a few feet away from my roommate, and yet, whenever her birthday or a holiday rolls around I always struggle to find the perfect gift for her! Even though my roomie is my bestie, finding cute and affordable items that I know she’ll love isn’t always the easiest task. Some of my friends aren’t super close with their roommates, which makes it even harder for them to think of a fitting present.

But don’t let the indecision get you down! If you and your roommate decide you want to exchange gifts (and it’s totally okay if you don’t), it can be a great bonding activity that can make your shared college experience so much sweeter. Whether you’re best friends or casual acquaintances, these 17 gifts for roommates are sure to be appreciated.

The Best Gifts for Roommates

From silky sleep masks and cozy socks to twinkly lights and disposable cameras, here are some gift ideas that your roommates are sure to use on repeat.

A pretty mug — like this one from Anthropologie decked out in delicate, whimsical flowers — makes any cup of dorm coffee taste that much better. Plus, if you get your roommate a monogrammed mug, you’re sure to never mix it up with your own. Keep in mind that this one isn’t microwave-safe; if you’re looking for one you can reheat then try this stoneware mug that you can tailor to your roomie’s favorite hobby.
