Not only has the Y2K aesthetic been making a style major comeback, but retro tech has, too. Think: CD players, digital cameras, iPods, and yes, even wired headphones. Whenever I wear mine while I’m out walking around, I feel so cool and underground. The only thing is, they get tangled in seconds, which is super annoying. I’ve been thinking I should buy a case to keep them from getting lost and bunched up in my bag, but then I serendipitously saw this TikTok video about how to make your own wire headphones case using (brilliantly) a pack of Hubba Bubba gum.

How to Make a Wire Headphones Case Out of a Hubba Bubba Container 

In @mysundayhomework’s TikTok video, she shows herself DIYing a wired headphones keychain case out of an empty Hubba Bubba container. Holy nostalgia factor! Plus, like wired headphones, this bright pink bubble gum of my childhood is having a moment, too, thanks to Olivia Rodrigo. In anticipation of her upcoming album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, she collaborated with Hubba Bubba — fitting, considering the cover art for her new single “Drop Dead” features her blowing a bubble with gum. (Not to mention, she’s been seen wearing wired headphones herself.)

In short, it’s the perfect moment to make this bubblegum wired headphones case. It’s not too difficult to DIY, either, and there are some ways to simplify the craft from what the video shows. Here’s how I would do it:

  1. Buy a pack of Hubby Bubba and take out the roll of gum (chew it up, share it with friends, channel your inner Olivia Rodrigo).
  2. Peel off the Hubba Bubba brand stickers (assuming you want a blank canvas) from the front and back of the container.
  3. Use super glue (or another strong glue) to attach a key ring to the top of the container (in the video, she uses a candle to melt and poke a hole into the plastic, but glue is much safer and simpler).
  4. Use stickers to decorate the outside of the container and make it yours!
  5. Optionally, add other fun charms to the key ring to make it a whole bag charm moment.
  6.  Roll up your wired headphones and place them inside. So cute!
