Being a college student can get very stressful very easily. On top of learning how to live on your own, you have class, exams, and extracurriculars to worry about. While academics are important, it’s crucial not to lose yourself in the stress of it all. College should be fun, even if you have to make a little extra effort to find some joy.

Recently, people have been sharing fun ways to add whimsy to everyday objects with sparkles, pops of color, and rhinestones — it’s hard to take something too seriously when it’s covered in sparkles. So it makes perfect sense that bedazzling has been having a major moment.

How to Add Some Whimsy to Your Everyday Life

How can you add a little sparkle to your busy student schedule? Start by building in small breaks from your studies! With your carved-out free time, you can do some crafting. Here are some ideas for adding sparkle to (almost) every inch of your life.

Get a bedazzling kit and go wild!

I have this rhinestone kit from Amazon, and it’s perfect for adding sparkle to nearly anything (and for only $7!). The gems are quite small because it’s meant for nail art, so crafting with this kit is a bit tedious, but ultimately relaxing and fun. You could bedazzle your makeup products, phone chargers, and so much more — of course, make sure you’re only zhuzhing your own belongings and not university-owned items.

Get a flip phone and cover it in rhinestones.

TikTok user Andrelis (@andrelisssssss) posted a video showing how she and her friends bought flip phones to use instead of smartphones, and then spent a day covering them in rhinestones. This is not only a fun craft to do with friends, but it’s another way to step away from your busy schedule (and the ever-looming online world) and enjoy life offline! Bonus points if you do a Y2K-inspired photo shoot with your flip phone.

Use “purse sprinkles.”

If you have a sweet tooth, this one is for you! The idea is to keep a small tin of sprinkles in your purse. Head to your nearest grocery store to find your favorite sprinkles, and put them in any container that fits in your purse. You could even bedazzle the tin of sprinkles! Now you have a little bit of sweetness for whenever you need a serotonin boost on the go, whether you sprinkle them on your morning matcha or an afternoon ice cream.

Add gem stickers to your coffee cup.

As a coffee lover myself, I need to do this! Instagram creator @thealondraflores posted a video showing exactly how to add some whimsy to your next coffee date. Go solo or grab your friends and head to your local cafe. Order your favorite drinks and cover them in gem stickers! It’s such a silly, cute way to make your standard to-go coffee a little bit more fun.

Add personality to your school supplies.

Going to class doesn’t have to be boring. There are plenty of ways to add personality to your school supplies: Cover your laptop case in stickers, bedazzle your calculator, or add pins to your backpack. The options are endless.
