4 Shows to Fill the “Off Campus”-Shaped Hole in Your Heart (Plus a Must-Watch Rom-Com!)
For all eight episodes of the new hit show Off Campus, I was sat! The Prime Video series, which is based on the popular Off-Campus book series by Elle Kennedy, follows many different relationships, including a fake-dating to lovers trope (complimentary) and important friendships. I especially enjoyed watching characters my age navigate life in a way that felt realistic, rather than overly dramatic for the big screen. Of course, watching Garrett Graham play hockey was an added bonus.
Since finishing the show, I’ve been searching for a series that gives me the same feeling. TikTok show clips and fan edits just aren’t cutting it — and I can’t wait until the second season, which is slated to drop in 2027, for more episodes.
If you’re also looking for something new, I found some shows (and a movie!) that can help fill the hole the series left behind. Of course, these aren’t exact copies of Off Campus, but you can find similar themes based on what you liked most in the Prime Video series — from fake dating to high-stakes hockey to relatable (and not-so-relatable) college friend groups.
1. For More Hockey: Heated Rivalry (2025)
Where to watch: HBO Max
Known as the hockey show that came first, Heated Rivalry is a must if you’re yearning for more hockey scenes (and more, well, yearning!). Like Off Campus, this Canadian sports romance series is based on a popular book series: Game Changers by Rachel Reid.
Even though both shows center on hockey and romance, they are not identical. One difference is that the main love story in Heated Rivalry is a relationship between longtime rivals and professional hockey superstars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The series follows Hollander and Rozanov over the course of nearly a decade and explores topics like the spectrum of sexuality and self-acceptance, with just enough lighthearted moments sprinkled throughout. The first season is available to watch now, and Season 2 is expected to release in 2027.
2. For a Fake-Dating Rom-Com: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
Where to watch: Netflix
Another book-to-screen hit, the 2018 Netflix film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is based on the eponymous 2014 novel by Jenny Han. It’s perfect for fans of the fake-dating trope: Lara Jean and Peter create the illusion that they’re a couple, but, just like Garrett and Hannah in Off Campus, they each have their own secret agenda. This modern classic is a sweet and relatable portrayal of girlhood and navigating relationships.
3. For Intense College Drama: Tell Me Lies (2022-2026)
Where to watch: Hulu
If you pine for drama, this one’s for you. Think of this show as Shameless, but set in college. (Warning: It deals with some highly sensitive topics.) Based on the 2018 novel Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering, the three seasons of this Hulu series follow Lucy and Stephen as they begin a passionate relationship that quickly becomes toxic and all-consuming. Between them and their circle of college friends at the show’s fictional Baird College, there’s lots of chemistry and tension. It’s basically like these characters are the Off Campus crew in an alternate universe, with no hockey and plenty of terrible decisions.
4. For Tight-Knit College Friendships: The Sex Lives of College Girls (2021-2025)
Where to watch: HBO Max
If your favorite part of Off Campus was watching college students foster friendships and relationships, The Sex Lives of College Girls should be next on your watch list. This comedy series on HBO Max follows four freshman roommates as they adjust to college life. True to the series’ name, the show’s three seasons are about navigating the world of sex in college, which leads to spicy and awkward moments that make the show feel both chaotic and relatable. Slightly more lighthearted than Off Campus, it captures the excitement of learning how to be an adult alongside your roommates and best friends.
5. For a Familiar Face: The Pitt (2025-2026)
Where to watch: HBO Max
This one’s a wild card, but John Tucker stans will appreciate it! If you want more of Jalen Thomas Brooks (who plays the lovable John Tucker in Off Campus), check out The Pitt on HBO Max, where he plays Mateo Diaz, an emergency room nurse. The show is not set in college, and there are no hockey games — but there is drama. It takes place in a modern-day Pittsburgh hospital and follows the emotional and high-pressure realities healthcare workers face every day. (Plus, Allie Hayes fans can get a glimpse of actor Mika Abdalla playing a patient in Season 1.)
