Blue purse, green wallet with some cash sticking out, and keys on a dining room table

Brace yourself, because I’m about to change your life — or at least your getting-ready routine — with this purse organizing hack that’s all over TikTok. My mind is truly blown by how such an easy concept can totally transform your everyday grind.

The hack is called the “purse bowl,” and I have to give credit to the genius who introduced it to the world:  @cocotakes. In a TikTok that’s so far received 3.8 million views and more than 387,000 likes, @cocotakes demonstrates that all you need to do to make this hack work for you is the following: Choose a cute and practically sized bowl to place near wherever you pick out your purse in the morning, empty your purse’s contents into the bowl to reset at the end of each day, and pour everything in the bowl into your purse the next morning. It really is that simple!

I don’t know how I never thought of this before, but I cannot wait to start using my own “purse bowl.” I’m never going back to having to fill my bag from scratch every time I use one (at the last minute, usually!), or having to buy multiples of my items for each purse.

The “purse bowl” is actually reminiscent of another social media purse organizing trend: the “purse drawer,” which went viral last spring. It was the same brilliant idea for purse item transfer, but using a drawer, not a purse. I believe the “purse bowl” is the even better option for people who lack extra storage space, like those who live in a small apartment or dorm room.

And the “purse bowl” has taken the internet by storm. For example, TikToker Meeshon Rogers (@meeshonrogers) also took the “purse bowl” for a spin; they highlighted in a TikTok how easy it is to transfer items from the bowl to a purse. It takes seconds!

Rogers captioned her video, “THANK YOU! To the lady that posted about the purse bowl. You’ve changed my life.” And truly it seems like such a basic thing, but I’m SO excited to have a “purse bowl” of my own!

Isabel is an incoming sophomore at the University of Vermont. She is studying public communication. She grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where she frequented the beach often during the summer. Even though her heart belongs to the ocean, the mountains are becoming a close contender. Her favorite part of living in Burlington, Vermont, for college is its unique coffee shops. Her perfect day would consist of going to a cute café in the morning, then spending the day at the beach swimming and reading, then ending the day by shopping and getting dressed up for a nice dinner downtown. Through Dorm Therapy, Isabel is excited to be a voice for young adults embarking on their college journeys and she hopes to make this big transition of life more comfortable for others in the same place as her.
