To me, setting intentions is everything. Sometimes, if I have a busy day ahead, I’ll journal for just 15 minutes to plan my day, acknowledge the good in my life, and clear my mind. Similarly, almost every time I go through a life transition, like a new semester or a change in seasons, I try to make a vision board. It helps me visualize my goals and set positive intentions for my new chapter.

So, when I saw this TikTok video from Sofía Abalone (@sagradamycelia) showing her monthly reset ritual, I instantly bookmarked it to try later. It’s such a creative way to stay on track — and all you need is a roll of butcher paper, making it a perfect addition to your dorm room.

What Is a Monthly Intention Wall?

In her video, Sofia describes her intention wall as a monthly journal spread of sorts — but imagine a beautiful, handcrafted poster on your wall! It’s meant to be a space to write down your ideas, to-dos, goals, and more. She uses a big piece of brown butcher paper as the base, decorates it with markers and paper, and tapes it up on the wall. The idea is to create a big visual reminder of all of your intentions for the month that can inspire you each time you look at it.

What to Include on Your Intention Wall

At the beginning of the month, visualize what lies ahead for you. Ask yourself: What assignments do I have due? Whose birthday is this month? What do I want to accomplish? What will motivate me to reach my goals? This is all great content to add to your intention wall for the month.

It’s also a perfect place to put reminders, and you could even add your own calendar with club meetings, test dates, and other important events to keep yourself organized.

In her August intention wall, Sofía included a list of books to read, Turkish words to learn, some friendly reminders, and to-dos for the month. When making your own, you can be as creative as you want. Maybe add some doodles that make you smile or positive affirmations that encourage you to study hard and find time to relax, too!

Why an Intention Wall Is Meaningful Wall Decor

The really beautiful thing about this concept is that the end result is a personalized poster for your wall. Once you hang up your intention wall, you’ll look at it every day, and there’s something really powerful about having your goals somewhere you can see them. If you wake up every day and one of the first things you see is your intention wall reading, “Be ambitious, study hard, and have fun,” you’re already setting yourself up for a successful month!

Of course, you also have to back good intentions with hard work. Luckily, adding your to-do list to your monthly intention wall is a great way to encourage yourself to get things done. So, before the next month begins, gather your friends and set some good intentions! You could make one intention wall for your entire friend group, including Halloween costumes and fun fall dates, or each make your own with personal and professional goals. All you need is some butcher paper and a few creative ideas.
