TikTok will always deliver when it comes to life hacks, DIYs, and must-have Dollar Tree products. So I stopped scrolling and paid attention when TikToker Emma Villaneda (@thecraftedstudioco) posted “5 EASY Dollar Tree ✨ORGANIZATION✨ HACKS for [your] home!” I believe the first is quite life-changing.

Villaneda says over-the-door hangers with vertical hooks, like the kind Dollar Tree sells for $1.25, are the ideal organization hack. Here’s the thing: They work for way more than jackets, Villaneda explains. You can also use them as a “drop zone” for hanging hats, sunglasses, keys, and purses.

These are all items that are way too easy to toss on the ground, a chair, your desk, or your dresser, so this feels like a brilliant solution. I currently use over-the-door hangers in my apartment bedroom for my robe, and I’ve also used them for my jackets, but now I’m going to have to try switching things up because the possibilities feel endless!

Unfortunately the Dollar Tree over-the-door options Villaneda shares, which have five hooks each, are unavailable for purchase online, but you can pop into your local Dollar Tree to see if they have them. If you’re hoping to buy something online, Amazon has a similar product with six hooks each that comes in a two-pack for $11.99.

These over-the-door hooks are a perfect way to maximize your space — especially if it’s small like a dorm. They’re affordable, sleek, and minimalist in their design, and make your everyday items extremely accessible and easy to find — all while taking up literally zero furniture surface space.

If you’re always on-the-go, this hack is for you!

Isabel is an incoming sophomore at the University of Vermont. She is studying public communication. She grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where she frequented the beach often during the summer. Even though her heart belongs to the ocean, the mountains are becoming a close contender. Her favorite part of living in Burlington, Vermont, for college is its unique coffee shops. Her perfect day would consist of going to a cute café in the morning, then spending the day at the beach swimming and reading, then ending the day by shopping and getting dressed up for a nice dinner downtown. Through Dorm Therapy, Isabel is excited to be a voice for young adults embarking on their college journeys and she hopes to make this big transition of life more comfortable for others in the same place as her.
