Two summers ago, I discovered the coastal granddaughter trend. As someone who grew up 10 minutes from the beach, I took this aesthetic very seriously. You could spot it in everything I wore that year, from my white linen pants to my blue and white floral bikini. Then, last summer, I took it to the next level and decided to redesign my childhood bedroom to be coastal granddaughter-themed. It was super fun picking out adorable decor pieces that allowed me to pretend I lived in The Summer I Turned Pretty summerhouse.

Fast-forward to this year, and I’ve learned about the cultural phenomenon known as the coastal cowgirl aesthetic. It feels to me like a spin on the classic New England coastal aesthetic, combining Western with beachy and basically proving you can pair cowgirl boots with anything. Fashion-wise, it’s all about wearing your favorite summer dress with your cowgirl boots and hat to stroll around a beach town. Think: a lot of denim and specifically the color blue.
