Something about Chipotle just screams “college” to me. It could be that there’s one located across the street from my campus, or the fact that I crave their bowls for lunch and dinner more than I care to admit (I am not willing to give a quantifying number to prove this).

If you’re like me, a self-proclaimed Chipotle fanatic, then I hope I get to be the one to break this news to you: Chipotle U Rivalry Week is here, and it’s the chain’s way to get in on the fun of college football season and offer students a chance at free food.

What Is Chipotle’s Chipotle U Rivalry Week?

Unfamiliar with Chipotle U? Allow me to explain. The chain is playing into the spirit of “long-standing rivalries in college football” by having students in schools virtually show their school spirit for a chance to win free food during Chipotle U Rivalry Week

If your school secures a spot in the top 10 college towns on this Chipotle U Rivalry Week microsite at the end of the week, you could get free Chipotle in the form of a BOGO (buy one, get one free) entrée deal.

How to Enter Your School for a Chance to Win Free Chipotle

Through Monday, November 17, at 11:59 p.m. PT, you can sign up for Chipotle U Rewards as a new member and validate your college enrollment to count toward your school for Chipotle U Rivalry Week. You can see a full list of the qualifying towns in the rules and regulations (I was pumped to see Columbia, Missouri!). You must attend a college or university in the qualifying town and be a new Chipotle U Rewards member to make your entry count, and there is only one entry allowed per person.

According to the rules, the top 10 college towns with the most new Chipotle U Rewards signups during the promotion will be the winners. So basically make sure you tell everyone you see on campus to join Chipotle U Rewards (if they haven’t already) so you all have a chance at some free food.

If you don’t see your town listed, write it in to nominate it at the bottom of the microsite. “The nominated city with the most Chipotle U signups wins a BOGO,” according to the site.

This specific offer up for grabs is for a BOGO free entrée, so you and a friend could catch up over dinner, you and your study buddy could grab a late-night meal, or you could grab one for dinner and save one for the next day’s lunch.

How to Join Chipotle U Rewards

Having a Chipotle U Rewards account is different than having a typical Chipotle account. I say this to ensure that you know you have to have both accounts. In order to open a free Chipotle U Rewards account, you need to be a regular Chipotle Rewards member. I was neither, so I got started by clicking “JOIN NOW” at the top of the microsite.

Once you’re set with Chipotle Rewards, then you’ll get started on Chipotle U Rewards, which should pop up right away for you. You’ll need to verify your student status on ID.me. You can do this by providing your current class schedule, Form I-20, school acceptance letter, Student ID, Registrar verification letter, or school transcript.

You can get 1,000 bonus points just for becoming a Chipotle U Rewards member, and as a member, you get 12 points per dollar (as opposed to the regular 10 points per dollar Chipotle Rewards members get).

When Will Chipotle U Rivalry Week Winning Schools Be Announced?

It’s not clear exactly when the winners will be announced, but the promotion ends on Monday, November 17, at 11:59 p.m. PT, so you can look for winners — the students who attend college or university in the top 10 qualifying towns and the winning write-in town — in the days after.

During the promotion, you can keep track of which cities and towns are in the top 10 by looking at the Chipotle U Rivalry Week standings on the microsite.

How to Redeem Your Free Chipotle if You Win

If your school is located in one of the winning cities or towns, the BOGO deal will be added directly to your Chipotle U Rewards account, and you’ll need to use the coupon within seven days to get the most bang for your buck. If you’re not already clued in, Chipotle’s entrée options include a burrito, a burrito bowl, a single order of three tacos, a quesadilla (only available via the Chipotle App or on Chipotle.com), or a salad — so you can totally mix and match, too.
