10 Tasty (and Easy!) 2-Ingredient Snacks You’ll Make on Repeat
After a long day of lectures and papers, sometimes (honestly, most of the time) I just don’t feel like cooking myself a meal. But it’s also pretty easy to get tired of dining hall food when it’s all you eat. There is a secret third option: easy two-ingredient recipes. Some of these are more filling than others, so mix and match with your hunger levels to make a snack that keeps you full.
For those times when you want a little more than a bag of chips (but don’t want to be in the kitchen for an hour), here are 10 super simple recipes you can make from the comfort of your own dorm.
1. Fresh Fruit and Oatmeal
- Microwave oatmeal cup
- Sliced fruit
Pop a cup of instant oatmeal in the microwave for a fast and easy breakfast. Elevating this meal is simple: Slice up a couple of fresh strawberries or sprinkle a few frozen blueberries on top. It’s a fantastic way to add some fruit to your meal and add a little extra pizazz to your first bites of the day.
2. DIY Mud Pie
- Chocolate pudding
- Oreo crumbles
When late-night studying is getting you down, sometimes a little treat is all you need to spur your motivation. If your sweet tooth is calling, try this two-ingredient “mud pie”: Grab a cup of chocolate pudding from the fridge, tear open a package of Oreos, and crush a couple of cookies on top for a chocolatey crunch.
3. “Homemade” Mac and Cheese
- Microwaveable mac and cheese
- Ritz crackers
Are you craving a warm, home-cooked meal? Make a cup of your favorite mac and cheese, crumble some Ritz crackers over that gooey cheese sauce, and enjoy!
4. Avocado Toast
- Avocado
- Bread
This recipe doesn’t necessarily require toasted bread, but if you have access to a toaster, the crunch makes it even better. Slice up a fresh avocado to top your bread for a satisfying snack or breakfast.
6. Cinnamon Apples
- Apples
- Cinnamon sugar
Growing up going apple picking every fall led me to discover one of my favorite treats: an apple sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. All you need to do is chop up an apple into small chunks, cover it in cinnamon sugar, and microwave until soft. It’s a sweet, cozy treat that you can make and enjoy any time of year.
5. Microwave Nachos
- Tortilla chips
- Shredded cheese
Grab a handful of tortilla chips and spread them out over a microwave-safe plate. Sprinkle some shredded cheese over the top and pop in the microwave until melted. These simple, cheesy chips are a great late-night snack or alternative to popcorn while watching a movie!
6. Veggies and Hummus
- Hummus
- Carrot sticks
Sometimes it’s hard to get your daily veggie intake on a dining hall diet. But if you need a healthy mid-study snack, some crunchy carrots and yummy hummus can be a great way to quiet your stomach growls. Mix up this pairing by trying out different varieties of dips, like roasted red pepper hummus or chipotle Bitchin’ Sauce.
7. Seasoned Popcorn
- Microwave popcorn
- Seasoning of choice
Microwave popcorn is my all-time favorite dorm snack. But sometimes I want just a smidge more flavor, so after popping a bag, I’ll sprinkle half a packet of ranch seasoning over the popcorn and elevate it to a whole new level. Ranch seasoning is my top pick, but any seasoning of choice will do, from taco seasoning to furikake, cinnamon sugar, or nutritional yeast.
8. Yogurt with Granola
- Yogurt of choice
- Granola
Take your pick of any cup of yogurt and mix in a sprinkle of granola (or nuts — shelled pistachios are great for this!) for an added crunch. Put it in a food storage container and take it with you to your morning class, or dig in for a mid-afternoon snack.
9. Sweet or Savory Roll-Ups
- Soft tortillas
- Peanut butter or deli meat
When you need an on-the-go bite to eat, try packing a tasty roll-up in your bag. Take a tortilla, add your choice of fillings, and roll it right up. Sometimes I’m in the mood for something sweet, so I’ll spread some peanut butter and nutella on the tortilla. Other times I’ll grab some sliced deli ham or turkey to make a savory, protein-filled roll-up that’s easy to bring on the go.
10. Bonus: Bagel Pizza
- Bagel
- Pizza toppings
Rushing between clubs, sports, and class and need a quick and easy dinner option? Take a bagel and slap on some tomato sauce and your favorite pizza toppings for a delicious pizza bagel that you can toast and eat in 20 minutes tops! Depending on what kind of topping you like, this one technically takes more than two ingredients — but if you go super simple with just cheese and sauce, you can make a delicious mini meal with just three ingredients!
