Bow Girl Christmas is everywhere right now. There’s a viral hot pink, gold bowed mini Christmas tree at HomeGoods, a TikTok-famous forest green throw blanket accented with pink and red bows at Marshalls — the list goes on.

Between the live-action Barbie movie coming out last summer, Glinda wearing all things pink in the upcoming Wicked movie, and coquette decor in general having a moment, I feel like people are embracing pink and bows more than ever. No wonder I’m spotting cute pink Christmas ideas everywhere I look!

And one perfect example of coquette holiday decor is this DIY giant bow, courtesy of TikToker Geneva Vanderzeil. All you need to make this supercute item is a pillow, a pillowcase, and a sheet in any color you love, plus some fabric glue (or a sewing kit if that’s your vibe). You could easily thrift these materials if you don’t want to ruin your own. The best part is that the finished product can easily be hung up in your dorm or on your dorm door!

Not to mention, the process looks totally doable. First, put your pillow into the pillowcase. (You may need to take some fluff out of your pillow before this.) Next, squeeze your pillow together in the center and tie two smaller strips of your sheet around it to make a bow shape. Then cut a big, thick strip of your sheet and glue (or sew) it together along the inside edges. After that, cut the ends on a diagonal, turn the whole thing inside out, and glue or sew those ends shut. Do that thick strip part again. Iron these bow tails and attach them to the center of the bow. Next, cut another wide piece of your sheet, fold over the edges so they look clean, and wrap the strip around the center of the bow.

You can also make a little hanger for your bow using some extra fabric — perfect for a Command strip or similar removable hook. And there you have it: This big, cute bow can adorably hang on your door or any wall in your dorm!

Isabel is an incoming sophomore at the University of Vermont. She is studying public communication. She grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where she frequented the beach often during the summer. Even though her heart belongs to the ocean, the mountains are becoming a close contender. Her favorite part of living in Burlington, Vermont, for college is its unique coffee shops. Her perfect day would consist of going to a cute café in the morning, then spending the day at the beach swimming and reading, then ending the day by shopping and getting dressed up for a nice dinner downtown. Through Dorm Therapy, Isabel is excited to be a voice for young adults embarking on their college journeys and she hopes to make this big transition of life more comfortable for others in the same place as her.
