University of North Carolina at Greensboro sophomore Myya McNeil (@myyareoniaahit on TikTok and @_luvvmyyy on Instagram) hit the dorm room jackpot when she was able to choose a room she spotted online (no random assignments here!). Myya sought out a room that looked unusually spacious and homey in photos, and she got to live in the exact one she saw. When she moved into this double dorm with her roommate, she got to work transforming the room with bold accessories and soft lighting. To make her statement wall art pop and stay securely in place, she used a simple but clever trick: putting a piece of painter’s tape flat on the wall and sticking the adhesive strips on the tape to stick better. The result is a cozy-glam space where her friends love to hang out all together.
Myya’s Space
How did you end up in this space?
I found this space while I was searching for housing for my first semester at UNCG. I wasn’t randomly assigned — I actually chose it because it stood out right away. The pictures made it look really spacious and comfortable, almost like it could feel like home before I even moved in.
What was your first impression when you saw it in person?
When I finally saw it in person, my first impression was honestly amazing. It looked even better than I expected, and I instantly loved it.
What is your space best known for?
My space is best known for being the spot where my friends come together to hang out and talk. It’s the place where we relax, catch up, and have our little get-togethers, so it’s become a cozy go-to hangout for everyone.
Myya’s Style
What is your personal style?
My personal style is a mix of cozy, glam and bold, feminine vibes. I’m really inspired by the aesthetic look I see on TikTok — especially the soft lighting, statement wall art, and matching patterns that make a space feel intentional. Leopard print is a big part of my style right now, so I’ve used it throughout my space to make it feel cohesive and uniquely mine. Overall, my design is guided mostly by vibes: I want my room to feel warm, stylish, and like a place that really reflects my personality.
What’s your favorite element of your space?
My favorite thing about my space is the leopard accents and how clean and put-together everything looks. The leopard print really brings out my personality and makes the room feel stylish and unique, while the overall clean look makes the space feel calm and comfortable. It’s the perfect mix of bold and cozy, which is exactly the vibe I love.
What’s your proudest DIY hack?
My proudest DIY hack was using blue painter’s tape to help keep my pictures in place. Since dorms don’t allow nails, I needed something extra to make the adhesive strips stick better. Adding a layer of painter’s tape behind the frames gave them more grip and made the whole setup way more secure. It’s a super simple trick, but it ended up making a big difference and kept my pictures from falling down.

Myya’s Advice
What was your biggest challenge in decorating your space?
One of the main challenges I faced while decorating my space was figuring out how to hang my pictures. Since it’s a dorm, I wasn’t allowed to use nails, which made it harder to get everything securely in place — especially the framed pieces I wanted above my bed. I had to rely on renter-friendly options like strong adhesive strips and lots of adjusting to make sure they stayed up without damaging the walls. Eventually, I found a combination that worked, and now the pictures stay up perfectly and look just the way I wanted.
Are there any small-space tips you swear by?
One of my biggest small-space tips is to keep everything as organized and intentional as possible. I try to use storage bins and baskets to hide clutter and make the space look cleaner. I also clean up a little each day so things don’t pile up.
Another trick is decorating in a way that still leaves open space, like keeping surfaces clear and only displaying things that actually add to the room. It makes the whole space feel bigger, calmer, and easier to live in.
