wall covered in shelves for books and art objects

As someone whose desk is currently covered in memorabilia, small crafts, and miniature figures, I know firsthand that tiny trinkets can quickly turn to clutter without a good way to store them. Luckily, this viral TikTok video gives tchotchke lovers — or anyone looking for cute decor — a way to subtly, but charmingly, display your goodies, while still keeping your spaces pristine.

In the video, @genevavanderzeil takes a glass-front trinket box and turns it into a custom display case with just some acrylic paint and a cute print.

If you’re inspired to try it yourself, note that tons of stores offer glass-front cases that can act as your blank canvas for this project.

To get started, paint the exterior of your case with your preferred colors, and once it’s dry, adhere your print to the glass pane of the case’s door. The video then shows this creator attaching the case to the wall with what looks like command strips. When you’re finished, you can load up your little cabinet with all of your treasures.

The “hidden” shelf totally raises the cool factor, as one commenter pointed out: “This gives the same vibes as a secret door behind a bookcase, and I’m here for it.”

For those who still want to show off their trinkets to visitors, another commenter suggests decorating the inside of the box, and then leaving the door open to create more of a display case.

Either way, you’ll be giving your collectibles a very chic new home.
