With a Starbucks right on my campus, a new menu drop is basically a school-wide announcement. Lines get longer, mobile orders back up, and suddenly everyone is holding a pink drink. Still, that’s never stopped me from joining in.

So when Starbucks rolled out its new bakery menu with six (!!!) all new sweet treats, I was so excited to see what they were all about. Starbucks offered me a full tasting, and here’s what stood out, what surprised me, and what I will be back for.

What’s on Starbucks’ New Bakery Menu?

The stacked new bakery lineup hit stores on February 9, and it features some trending flavors as well as a few classics (with a twist!). You can check out items like the Berry Blondie, Yuzu Citrus Blossom Cake, Dubai Chocolate Bite, Cookie Croissant Swirl, and two new loaf cakes: the Strawberry Matcha Loaf Cake and the Chocolate Pistachio Loaf.

My Honest Review of Starbucks’ New Bakery Menu Items

The Berry Blondie

As someone who doesn’t love brownies, I was excited to see its less chocolaty cousin, a blondie, on the menu — and it did not disappoint. Starbucks describes it as “sweet and tangy,” and it’s made with pieces of white chocolate with blueberry and raspberry jam swirled in.

It’s sweet, tastes freshly baked, and was a great warm treat. It didn’t have a strong smell, but the berry flavor carried more than the chocolate, making it refreshing and not overly sweet! It’s a perfect option if you want a sweet treat bigger than a cake pop but not as heavy as a full pastry.

Would I order it again? Yes, especially as an afternoon snack.

Yuzu Citrus Blossom Cake

I didn’t know exactly what to expect from this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. Starbucks describes it as a “light and fluffy croissant dough filled with tangy yuzu citrus cream,” and it’s topped with candied yuzu pieces. The cake smelled like lemon and tasted light and citrusy. I enjoyed the fluffy, cloud-like texture. This was super refreshing without being too sweet. I could easily see this replacing my usual Lemon Loaf order!

Would I order it again? Yes! I wasn’t super familiar with yuzu, the Chinese citrus fruit, but it turns out I like it.

Strawberry Matcha Loaf and Chocolate Pistachio Loaf

Both loaves were well-made and super aesthetically pleasing, but slightly too sweet for me to order regularly. The Strawberry Matcha Loaf has swirls of real matcha and strawberry, topped with strawberry icing glaze. I loved the glaze on this one!

The Chocolate Pistachio Loaf is a chocolate and pistachio cake swirled together, topped with pistachio pieces. I usually grab Starbucks in the morning, and these felt a bit heavy to start the day. That said, I preferred the Strawberry Matcha Loaf over the Chocolate Pistachio one — likely because I’m already a fan of strawberry-matcha flavor combos.

Would I order these loaves again? Probably not, but they’re worth trying once.

Dubai Chocolate Bite

This bite is dense, surprisingly so for its small size. It’s exactly what it sounds like— Starbucks’ bite size version of a Dubai chocolate pastry. It’s a “chocolate shortbread crust filled with crunchy kataifi pistachio cream,” according to Starbucks, with a chocolate drizzle and pistachio crumbles to top it off.

The flavor is excellent and truly tastes like a Dubai chocolate bar. The pistachio filling is thick, super rich, and almost peanut-butter-like, which makes it satisfying but intense. My tip is to order a drink if you are getting this item; you will definitely need it!

Would I order it again? Yes, but only with a coffee that isn’t super sweet!

Cookie Croissant Swirl

As a Starbucks croissant loyalist, I had high expectations for this, and I wasn’t let down. The croissant is made with real cocoa, topped with chocolate streusel and, of course, cookie pieces. This is light, fluffy, and easy to pull apart, with just enough cookie sweetness sprinkled throughout. Along with the Berry Blondie, this was one of my favorite bakery items from the entire menu.

Would I order it again? Definitely.

My Final Thoughts on Starbucks’ New Bakery Items

These sweet treats are some of the best drops I’ve seen in the Starbucks bakery case in a while. If you’re overwhelmed and not sure what to order, check out my top picks: the Cookie Croissant Swirl and the Berry Blondie. They’re classics with a twist!
