I Tried All 3 of Starbucks’ Cute New Mini Pies, and I Have a Definite Favorite
Even though I don’t really drink coffee, Starbucks has still become one of my favorite spots for a pick-me-up. My go-to order is a Strawberry Açaí Refresher, and I’m a big fan of the chain’s breakfast sandwiches, but I’ve never explored Starbucks’ baked goods. When Starbucks introduced its new Mini Pies in three fall flavors on September 29, I was just curious enough to try them.
I get very excited about pumpkin-flavored anything this time of year, so the Pumpkin Mini Pie really piqued my interest — but after trying all three, I was genuinely impressed by Starbucks’ latest venture into mini desserts and wondered why I hadn’t paid more attention to its baked goods before. Here’s everything to know about the new Mini Pies, and my honest review of each flavor.
What Are Starbucks’ New Mini Pies?
According to the Starbucks press release announcing these new limited-time desserts, the bite-size treats come in Apple Crumble, Pecan, and Pumpkin flavors. The Apple Crumble Mini Pie features softened apples and a “buttery streusel topping,” while the Pecan Mini Pie has a caramelized filling with toasted pecan notes. The Pumpkin Mini Pie, meanwhile, combines creamy pumpkin filling with fall spices and a decorative leaf-shaped crust.
Each pie is small enough to be a yummy on-the-go treat, but when I tried them, they felt more like a sit-down dessert and were easier to eat with a fork because they can be a little crumbly. The pies cost $3.45 apiece at my New York Starbucks location, but you can get a bundle discount if you buy all three.
My Honest Review of Starbucks’ New Mini Pies
The first thing I did when I ordered my adorable Starbucks Mini Pies was to take the barista up on the offer to warm up all three pies. And honestly, I think that was the right call. The little pies came out toasty and fragrant — together, they had a sweet, cozy cinnamon scent — which made them feel even more like a proper fall treat. I tried all three flavors, and while each one had something different going for it, one clearly stood out for me.
Starbucks’ New Pumpkin Mini Pie (Honest Review)
The Pumpkin Mini Pie was my favorite by far. First of all, how cute is that little maple leaf made from buttery crust on top? But the flavor is what really won me over. The pumpkin filling was incredibly smooth and rich, with just the right amount of fall spice. It was sweet without being overwhelmingly sugary, which I really appreciated.
The crust was also exactly what I want from a pie: soft and flaky in the middle, with edges that were just crispy enough. Between the creamy pumpkin filling, buttery crust, and warm spices, this one really nailed the classic pumpkin pie experience in miniature.
Starbucks’ New Apple Crumble Mini Pie (Honest Review)
The Apple Crumble Mini Pie presented more like a cobbler than a traditional pie, but that definitely wasn’t a bad thing. The filling had that warm, sweet, apple-pie flavor I associate with cinnamon and sugar, while the oat streusel on top added a dry, slightly crunchy contrast.
For such a tiny dessert, there was actually a lot going on texture-wise. You get the soft apple filling, the buttery pastry, and the crumbly oat topping all in one bite. If you love apple pie and want to pack all of those flavors and textures into a tiny little treat, this one definitely delivers.
Starbucks’ New Pecan Mini Pie (Honest Review)
As a Georgia girl, I knew I would have strong feelings about the Pecan Mini Pie. The filling had the rich, deep nuttiness I expect from a good pecan pie, along with that sweet, almost maple-syrup-like flavor that makes pecan pie so distinctive.
The filling was a little denser than the pumpkin, giving it a heartier bite, but I liked its richness. It definitely leans into the indulgent side of pecan pie, so if you’re a fan of that classic nutty, caramelized flavor, this is a pretty satisfying little treat.
My Final Thoughts on Starbucks’ Mini Pies
As someone who has a soft spot for anything pumpkin-flavored, the Pumpkin Mini Pie was easily my favorite, but each flavor brought something different to the table, and I loved getting to try a side of Starbucks I hadn’t really explored before. If these Mini Pies are any indication, I may need to start paying a little more attention to the bakery case on my next Starbucks run.
