Friends of mine know that I go hard for candy. I wander around candy shops (ItsSugar, to be specific) like it’s my job (I guess it kind of is?), go to the movie theatre with not one but at least three different sweet snacking options, and even have the childhood cavities to show for it. When a new candy comes to town, I take note.

Speaking of, Skittles recently released an innovative product that, in my opinion, will change the world of candy forever: Skittles Pop’d, aka freeze-dried Skittles. And, yes, they’re fantastic.

What You Should Know About Skittles Pop’d

Now, this isn’t a brand-new Skittles flavor — it’s an entirely new kind of Skittles. The brand has taken the decades-old candy and popped (literally and figuratively) it into a freeze-dryer that simultaneously chills and pressurizes the chewy fruit candies to remove all of the water. The result? An incredibly sweet and crunchy candy that’s unlike any Skittles you’ve ever tried. You can see the formerly soft candy center “pop” onto the outside, like popcorn, and the multi-colored candy shells throughout the little candy.

Skittles Pop’d come in two flavors: Original and Sour, both of which have the iconic colorful hard-candy shells. The 5.5-ounce bags hit grocery stores a few weeks ago, and are slowly popping up at more retailers, including Target.

My Honest Review of Skittles Pop’d

Skittles Pop’d are the best thing that the brand has made, well, since the invention of the O.G. Skittles. I’m a texture fiend, and that’s what makes these Skittles really stand out. They have the same exact flavor of Skittles that I know and love, but with the added crunch and crispiness that make them a dream.

Don’t just take my word for it — I brought this bag over to my family’s house, and even my very opinionated grandfather who loves to point out at least one area for improvement in virtually each and every dish (of course he doesn’t cook himself) couldn’t find a negative thing about them. All he said was, “Hm. Tasty.” Which, reader, means they really are fantastic.

I’m unsure if these are a permanent addition to the brand’s collection (I sure hope they are), but I will be snacking on them for the foreseeable future.

Buy: Skittles Pop’d Original, $5.99 for 5.5 ounces at Instacart
