I Finally Found a Sheet Set That *Instantly* Cools Me Down (And They’re Buttery Soft!)

There’s nothing better than climbing into a freshly made bed at the end of the day — unless your sheets immediately make you feel hot. I tend to sleep warm, so when Rest gifted me their Evercool + Cooling Sheets, I was curious whether they’d actually make me feel less hot throughout the course of the night.

After a few nights of testing these Rest cooling sheets (including the fitted sheet and matching pillowcases) during a particularly hot week of June in San Antonio, I found myself looking forward to crawling into bed at the end of the day.

The Rest Evercool+ line includes fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillowcases, and complete sheet sets made with the brand’s Evercool+ performance fabric — a blend of superfine nylon, spandex, and Ionic+ silver yarn that’s designed to feel cool, lightweight, and smooth against your skin.

For this review, I tested the Evercool + Cooling Starter Sheet Set, which includes a fitted sheet and two matching pillowcases. The fitted sheet fits mattresses up to 18 inches deep and has labels for the long and short sides, which made it much easier to put on than my usual fitted sheet. According to the product description, the fabric is also odor-resistant and moisture-wicking.

I tested a queen-size Starter Sheet Set in Arctic White, which includes one fitted sheet and two pillowcases and sells for $209 on the Rest website (though at the time of publishing, it’s on sale for $146!). The set also comes in seven sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king, and split king, with prices ranging from $179-$229. In addition to white, you can choose from five other colors: Aqua Blue, Cool Gray, Lavender Breeze, Snow Ivory, and Midnight Blue. 

I never use a top sheet (and the Rest Starter Sheet Set doesn’t come with one) so I made my bed with the Rest Evercool+ fitted sheet and two pillowcases, and my own cotton duvet I always use. The first night I got into my newly made bed, I noticed how cool everything felt the second I settled in. I wasn’t expecting the difference to be that instant or obvious, but it was. They didn’t stay ice cold all night (I wouldn’t expect them to), but they never made me feel overly warm or stuffy either as I slept — something I can’t say about the cotton sheets I was sleeping on before this.

Almost more surprising than these sheets being cool to the touch is their texture. These don’t feel like my traditional cotton sheets at all. They’re super buttery soft with a smooth, almost silky finish that I found really comfortable to sleep on. The fitted sheet also stayed securely on my mattress the entire time I tested it, which is a small detail that makes a big difference. I hate waking up to one corner of my fitted sheet slipping off. 

The pillowcases were actually my favorite part of this set. I tend to flip my pillow throughout the night searching for some relief from the heat, but I found myself doing that much less while sleeping on these. They stayed cool against my face longer than I expected, which made falling asleep feel much more comfortable. 

After washing the sheets according to the care instructions for the first time after using them, I was relieved to find that they felt exactly the same. They were still just as soft and smooth, and they kept that cool-to-the-touch feel I noticed from the very first night. I also didn’t notice any signs of pilling.

At close to $200 for a queen Starter Set, these sheets are definitely more of an investment than a standard sheet set, but after trying them, I can understand why people are willing to spend more. I didn’t expect to have such strong opinions about a fitted sheet and pillowcases, but now that I’ve slept on these, going back to my old bedding honestly sounds a little disappointing — and sweaty.
