Prebiotic sodas have been popping up all over my feeds for a while now, but I’d say Poppi has officially entered the classic soda rotation (at least definitely my own!). The prebiotic soda — made with apple cider vinegar, fruit juice, and marketed as a “better for you” alternative to traditional soda — is everywhere right now. But with more than 15 flavors and a higher price point than your average drink, picking the right one feels like a risk.

So, instead of leaving you guessing about which Poppi flavors are best, we tried all of them for you! Six Dorm Therapy team members — including me! — tested all 17 regularly available Poppi flavors, evaluating smell (Does it smell good?), flavor (Does it taste good?), and flavor accuracy (Does it taste like the flavor it says it is?) for each one. What started as a taste test turned into a very opinionated ranking — and not everyone agreed. In the end, though, we landed on six Poppi flavors that reign supreme. Keep reading to find out which six varieties came out on top.

Where to Buy Poppi

Poppi is available at Target and most grocery stores and drug stores, plus online. I usually grab mine from Whole Foods.

When you live in a dorm, you likely opt for less of a bulk buy and more of a “grab a few cans for the fridge” situation — especially if you don’t know which flavor you like yet. If that’s the case for you, pick from a mix of our favorites below.

What Does Poppi Taste Like?

Even across 17 flavors, Poppi has a consistent base. All of the flavors have a slight tang, likely from the apple cider vinegar. You can definitely tell they’re not a traditional soda, because they don’t taste super sugary.

Pro tip: Let your Poppi can get super cold in the fridge for at least 24 hours — our testers really enjoyed when the sodas were ice cold!

The 6 Best Poppi Flavors

In order to determine our favorite Poppi flavors, we added up all of our team members’ individual scores for smell, flavor, and flavor accuracy across 17 varieties. We included our scores for flavor twice — double-weighing the category because, you know, it’s gotta taste good! Once we did so, clear leaders emerged. These six Poppi flavors should be your go-tos. They earned the most unwaveringly strong scores across all categories. Two even tied for fifth place. (Bonus: The cans are very aesthetic!).

1. Orange Cream

Bow down to Orange Cream, the most universally loved flavor! It was also considered the Poppi that comes closest to tasting like actual soda — or, deliciously, like a classic orange creamsicle.

2. Root Beer

Root Beer, our second-place winner, nabbed the most consistently high scores across categories. Essentially, this soda delivers exactly what people want and expect: It tastes just like a regular root beer — which has been around forever for a reason!

3. Cream Soda

Another classic flavor, just like Root Beer. Cream Soda came in third, with high flavor scores and especially high flavor accuracy scores — so cream soda stans, this is for you!

4. Grape

While Grape Poppi got some serious appreciation from our reviewers — the staffers who loved it really loved it — a few people did think it tasted too artificial. If you have a soft spot for Grape Blow Pops, though, Grape Poppi is for you.

5. Wild Berry (Tied)

A fun flavor for summertime! Earning predominantly high scores across reviewers (with one major outlier), Wild Berry performed strong enough to land in the top tier. Many people said it tastes like candy — specifically, a gummy bear!

5. Shirley Temple (Tied)

Sweet and recognizable, most people enjoyed this one. Just don’t expect anything extra syrupy — reviewers said it tastes like a less intense version of an actual Shirley Temple.
