Pistachio has absolutely skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years, thanks in part to the viral Dubai Chocolate Bar that took the world by storm. Even prior to this trend I was a big fan of pistachio, so I’m not complaining that it is everywhere now. I have at least two nut butters in my pantry at all times.

So when I got the opportunity to try Peppertux’s pistachio butter, I eagerly jumped at the chance. And after one spoonful, it’s easily become a regular in my pantry.

Peppertux Original Pistachio Butter Is My New Favorite Spread for Toast

Peppertux was founded by Malia and Ahat Caskurlu, who first started selling their pistachio products at farmers markets in Southern California, where they consistently sold out. They started going door to door and met a major buyer, and the rest is history. Peppertux specializes in pistachio butter, cream, drizzle, and squares (think: candy bars).

All of the products are made with Turkish Antep pistachios that are PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), so you know you’re getting the real deal. This highly aromatic and flavorful variety of pistachio is often used in Turkey to make baklava and in Italy to make gelato.

Peppertux Original Pistachio Butter adds natural beet sugar to the roasted pistachios for a slightly sweet nutty spread. It’s vegan, gluten-, palm oil-, seed oil-, and cholesterol-free. You can purchase Peppertux products online or in select grocery retailers, including Wegmans, HEB, Costco, Meijer, and Gelson’s.

My Honest Review of Peppertux Original Pistachio Butter

As soon as I opened the jar, I could see that this nut butter is thicker than average. It’s more like a paste, and I didn’t need to stir it much. I love how vibrant and green the pistachio butter is, and I could see some larger nut pieces studded throughout.

But the flavor is really where it’s at. I could truly taste the quality of these pistachios. The nut butter is rich, nutty, creamy, and has the tiniest bit of sweetness. Unlike pistachio cream, which typically has more sugar and dairy added, this nut butter has a concentrated and prominent pistachio flavor. I can see why Peppertux calls it “baklava on a spoon.” In fact, the flavor reminded me of pastries I’ve tried in Morocco.

It’s delicious spread on toast, but I’ve also added a spoonful to a yogurt bowl and schmeared it between dates for a quick snack. Despite being thick, it didn’t stick to the roof of my mouth the way peanut butter does, and it isn’t oily. I can’t wait to bake it into cookies, puff pastry, and more.
