Throughout my childhood, Oreo Cakesters were an elusive — almost mystical — snack. I had them once or twice as a kid, and they lived in my mind as a larger-than-life treat I equated to chocolatey, creamy clouds. After being randomly discontinued in 2012, they remained a wistful memory I’d always reminisce about.

Roughly a decade later, the Oreo announced their return. I remember the day I heard they were in stores from an Instagram post. It was January 2022. As soon as I saw the announcement, I ran to my car and headed to the nearest Walmart. Nothing! Disappointed but determined, I drove to four more Walmarts that day — it almost turned into a game for my friends and me — until I finally found them at one an hour away from my college campus. I bought four boxes, and they were just as fluffy and delicious as I remembered.

That is a bit long-winded, but it’s important context to explain how I felt when I heard that Oreo was releasing Double Chocolate Cakesters. Obviously, I had to try them (hello, double chocolate!). Here’s my review.

What You Should Know About Oreo Double Chocolate Cakesters

The Oreo Double Chocolate Cakesters hit grocery shelves earlier this month (along with new Oreo Golden Birthday Cake cookies) and are a permanent addition to the brand’s lineup (6-year-old me just let out a sigh of relief!).

The cookies are sold in a box of five individual packs of two (quick math: That’s 10 Cakesters total) and feature a creamy chocolate filling sandwiched between two soft-baked chocolate cookies. The Cakesters are available in stores now at select retailers (primarily in stores).

My Honest Review of Oreo Double Chocolate Cakesters

In my opinion, the best part of Oreo Cakesters is the two cloudlike, spongy chocolate cookies. Sure, I like the vanilla cream in the center, but I’m more of a chocolate girl. So I was especially excited going into this new double chocolate flavor.

With the same fervor that went into the Oreo Cakesters a few years ago, I ripped open a package and went straight in. TL;DR is they’re fantastic. They have a supersoft texture and chocolatey flavor that’s even better than the O.G. Cakesters.

The cookie has the same pillowy softness as the original cookie, but the chocolate filling really makes this Cakester special. It’s got a velvety-smoothness similar to a ganache that complements the cake-like cookie. It’s like a miniature, handheld piece of cake. Who wouldn’t want two of those?!
