Oreo Just Brought Back an Absolutely Iconic Cookie Flavor
Whether you love to twist one open, dip it in peanut butter, or pop the whole thing in your mouth alongside a glass of milk, Oreos are simply delicious. For those looking to try something a little different from the classic flavor, Oreo is eager to please: The brand has come out with numerous exciting, limited-edition flavors over the years, like Mint Chip and Chocolate Covered Pretzel.
Well, to close out 2025 and kick off the new year, Oreo is dropping nine new products between now and January — including a cookie that tastes just like … cookie dough. Let’s get into it.
What You Should Know About Oreo Cookie Dough Sandwich Cookies
Oreo has unveiled not one, but five new products this December: Oreo Muffins, Oreo Cakesters Confetti Cake, Oreo Thins Chocolate Ganache, and Oreo Minis Chocolate Creme, plus Oreo Cookie Dough (which will have a limited run). You’ll find four more items come January: larger bags of Oreo Minis Peanut Butter, two new packaging sizes for Oreo Golden Minis, and the long-awaited return of the Oreo Reese’s Cookie.
If you’re thinking Oreo Cookie Dough sounds vaguely familiar, you’re right: The flavor originally made its debut in 2014, when it featured dough-flavored creme sandwiched between two classic chocolate cookies. The new version doubles up on the dough flavor (and texture!) by adding chocolate chip cookie bits to the creme, and swapping the classic chocolate cookies for two chocolate chip cookies.
The new Oreos debuted on grocery store shelves December 15 at retailers nationwide for $5.79, where they’ll be available while supplies last.
My Honest Review of Oreo Cookie Dough Sandwich Cookies
Cookie dough is one of my all-time favorite ice-cream mix-ins, and so are Oreos — so I was eager to dig in. I peeled open the packaging to find rows of golden cookies with flecks of chips that reminded me of actual chocolate chip cookies. The filling itself resembles cookie dough as well, with no shortage of little chocolate chips. I twisted the cookie apart to taste each element separately.
The cookie alone has a solid snap and a caramelized, almost brown butter taste that reminded me of a Biscoff cookie or a crispy chocolate chip cookie. The creme had a butterscotch flavor, and I liked the added crunch from the chips. The creme has a slightly grainy texture compared to the original creme. As a whole, the cookie is also definitely on the sweeter end, so one was just perfect for me.
The Cookie Dough Oreos were a hit in the office, as well. Ali, The Kitchn’s associate groceries editor, loved them. “The center is dough-y and has a texture and flavor akin to cookie dough. It reminds me of a cookie out of the oven that’s crispy on the sides and soft on the inside,” she said.
Mara, The Kitchn’s director of groceries and shopping, got a little nostalgic, saying these reminded her of the “Nabisco chocolate chip snaps I used to eat as a kid.” She also tasted some “caramelization in the creme” and said, “I definitely get raw cookie dough flavor. If you’re someone who’s really into that, you’ll love this cookie!”
