When I’m not editing a feature or chasing a lifestyle tip, you can find me rearranging my furniture, watching reality TV, or taking a veryyy long walk around the city.

You probably watched Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles defy gravity with unreal grace during the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Or maybe you tuned in to her unforgettable freestyle during the Season 34 finale of Dancing with the Stars. You also could have seen her on the cover of her New York Times-bestselling book, I’m That Girl; or the TIME100 Most Influential People in Sports 2026 list. But if you attend the University of California, Los Angeles, you may have seen her walking around campus like any other college student.

Chiles recently completed her collegiate gymnastics career at UCLA, winning the floor title at the 2026 NCAA gymnastics championship, and she’s set to graduate in 2027. She’s a multi-hyphenate and an icon, to be sure, so when I had the pleasure of meeting her on the set of a July 2026 video shoot for TilePix (head here to see more of the gorgeous dorm that home decor influencer Tay Nakamoto designed for her!), I couldn’t wait to learn more. In this edition of Campus Questions — a series where Dorm Therapy sits down with influential people to learn all about their life at college and beyond — I got to talk to Chiles about everything from her dorm must-have, to her ideal ramen toppings, and even her favorite Love Island USA couple.

Campus Questions

I can’t decide what I want more — to take Chiles’ class on sneakers or try her loaded-up ramen.

How would you describe your style in three words? Outgoing, colorful, and spontaneous.

What’s your one dorm room essential? Having pictures of my family.

What is your go-to late night or study snack? If it’s a candy, the [Nerds Gummy] Clusters, and if it’s a snack snack, ramen.

What are your favorite ramen toppings? I’m the type to put lemon pepper seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, maybe an egg, chives, soy sauce — I just go crazy. It just depends on the day and how long I want to sit in the kitchen to actually make it.

If you could teach a college class on any subject you’re an expert in, what would it be? Sneakers. The history of when the first sneaker was created, celebrities who have sneaker [brands] now, like Michael Jordan. [I’d] go down the line of the history of track shoes and the ins and outs of companies creating sneakers.

What are you watching right now? The most recent show I finished was Nemesis. Also obviously Love Island USA — shout-out to Trinity and Bryce, they were my winners from the beginning! But I rewatch shows, too, whether it’s Pretty Little Liars or Criminal Minds

The first thing I ever said I wanted to be when I was young was an interior designer. But, after years of waiting by the mailbox for my favorite magazines and seizing every opportunity to write, I decided to pursue journalism. I started my career at Boston magazine, before pivoting into strategic communications, and coming back to journalism when I joined Apartment Therapy in 2022 — the perfect union of my childhood dream and adulthood passion. I edit the Life section, covering wellness, money, career, small-space living, mental health, and all the items, habits, hacks, and pro tips that can help you level up your life at home. I love peeling back the curtain on the myriad fascinating ways people live at home, and relish writing and editing narrative essays, special content packages, and stories that answer that question you’ve always had. When I’m not editing a feature or chasing a hot tip about how to live your best life at home, you can find me rearranging my furniture, perusing a local bookstore (even though I’ve run out of shelf space), writing a newsletter about overthinking pop culture, or taking a veryyy long walk around the city.
