As I speed toward college graduation, I am looking down the road at taking my last finals ever. Despite seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, I am having a hard time sitting down and studying for them. I have tried all my old tricks: putting on my noise-cancelling headphones, locking myself in my bedroom, and even rewarding myself with my favorite coffee after I hit my study goals for the day. However, none of it has helped the information stick in my brain.

I know it is time for me to switch up my habits, and that’s why when I came across this hack on TikTok that shows a new way to use your iPad to study, I thought it could be just what I needed.

How to Do the Magnetic iPad Case Whiteboard Trick

After seeing a video from another TikTok creator where their iPad is stuck to the whiteboard as they take notes alongside it, creator Mystee (@heymystee) wanted to try the same thing. She thought she needed a special iPad case but later realized that you can use any regular case with a magnetic closure to adhere it to a whiteboard. You can buy a magnetic iPad case like this off Amazon for $20, and it comes in over 40 colors, so you can definitely find one that fits your style.

Simply flip your screen cover over so you can view your iPad by placing it on the whiteboard. Make sure it’s securely magnetized to the white board before letting go. From there, study to your heart’s content.

I think I would use this for copying notes onto the whiteboard or for sketching out story structures while looking at my interview transcriptions, but the possibilities are endless. You could reference questions or problem sets on your iPad and solve them by hand on the whiteboard, reading your digital textbook on your iPad and taking notes on the whiteboard, or writing or sketching out definitions or concepts that you’re having difficulty committing to memory. No matter what you use it for, this hack has potential to be the study method that’ll get you through the end of the semester.

Writing your notes by hand can help you learn and commit information to memory more easily, according to a 2023 Frontiers in Psychology study. So, copying down what’s on your iPad onto the whiteboard can help seal in what you need to know for that test or paper.
