This IKEA DIY Makes the Cutest Lamp from Candleholders (It’s So Easy!)
The only thing that’s better than an IKEA hack is an IKEA hack that costs less than $50 to complete. And there’s a new DIY project making waves on Instagram right now that fits that criteria. The project involves turning IKEA’s new striped TRÄDSTAM candleholders into an adorable mini lamp — and because the entire thing is cordless, you can place it anywhere.
Digital creator Magdalena Wöckinger created an adorable mini lamp using three red-and-white TRÄDSTAM candleholders and a rechargeable globe lamp, which you can find on Amazon. Using a bit of mounting adhesive (you could use hot glue or E6000, too), Wöckinger glued the candleholders together and then rested the globe light in the crevice of the top holder. Brilliant, ingenious, give me more.
“How cute is the result?” Wöckinger wrote. “I’m totally in love — and thanks to the battery-powered lamp, there’s no annoying cable to worry about.”
Wöckinger paid extra attention to the stripes on the TRÄDSTAM when gluing them together. She alternated the stripe placement when stacking, which creates a checkerboard-like pattern. But you could line up the red stripes and white stripes to give the lamp a more uniform look. You can also use just one of the candleholders to create a simpler lamp, or use a few more to make a taller statement piece.
You could also use the blue tealight version of the TRÄDSTAM candleholder, but just note that you may want to source a smaller globe light so it’s better balanced in the smaller crevice.
This rechargeable globe light from Amazon comes in a variety of different sizes, but the six-inch version should work great for this project. It comes with a remote and emits about eight hours of light on a single charge.
