I share a bathroom with my roommate, and there’s never enough space for all our stuff. Between our hair tools, skincare products, and makeup, our countertop is beyond cluttered.

We needed an organization hack that was both affordable and rental-friendly, and that’s why I was so excited when I discovered this IKEA storage basket.

How to Use the IKEA PURRPINGLA Storage Basket

For just $2, this 4″x4″x6” container is the ideal solution for people who are strapped for space in a dorm or apartment. It’s the perfect size for storing hot tools like curling irons or straighteners, or the assortment of combs and brushes currently cluttering your counter. The single handle also makes it easy to hang from a Command hook, or you could even suspend it from your towel rack like you see in this TikTok video from Gülcan (@roses.interior). Plus, the interior of the basket can easily be wiped clean if you prefer to use it for makeup brushes.

This is a pretty ingenious use of your vertical space, and the neutral shade ensures it will fit with basically any color scheme.

You could also hang the PURRPINGLA basket from a door knob or create a gallery wall of baskets on the wall or the back of a door to take advantage of every inch of your space.

Other Ingenious IKEA Storage Solutions

In the spirit of one-stop shopping (or trying to hit IKEA’s $50 free shipping minimum), you might also want to check out a few of IKEA’s $19 TRÖSKNING bins, which can be stacked or used independently and make great recycling containers or receptacles for dog or cat food. The $18 SOCKERBIT box is also an ideal under-the-bed storage solution (a must for small spaces).

One trip to IKEA and you’ll never have to stress about squeezing the most out of every square inch again.
