Mac and Cheese

Let’s be honest: Boxed mac and cheese is a pantry essential. It was a staple for me growing up, and now that I’m in college I lean on it even more for a quick meal or late-night snack. (Try adding some frozen peas to the pasta water and a generous dollop of Greek yogurt instead of milk.)

Unfortunately, boxed mac and cheese isn’t exactly convenient for all college students, especially ones who don’t have access to a kitchen. I was beyond excited to see my favorite brand Goodles recently launched two new microwavable cups packed with its chickpea protein-enriched pastas. I got my hands on samples ahead of the launch and tried both — here’s my honest review.

What You Should Know About Goodles Macaroni and Cheese Cups

Goodles took its top two flavors: Shella Good (white Cheddar shells) and Cheddy Mac (Cheddar cheese macaroni) and turned them into single-serving, microwavable cups. The vibrantly colored containers are easily transportable and come with a resealable lid. They cook in just 2.5 minutes and similar to other mac and cheese cups, they just require water (no butter or milk needed).

Made without preservatives or added chemicals, these 16-ounce cups first-launched late last month and sold out almost immediately. There’s actually a wait list you can join on the brand’s website to learn when they’re back in stock.

Once they’re available, you can grab a 12-pack for $29.88 (or $25.40 if you subscribe to recurring shipments). In the coming weeks, you’ll also find the cups on shelves at Target, Walmart, and Costco, according to the brand.

My Honest Review of Goodles Macaroni and Cheese Cups

I’m already a fan of everything I’ve tried from Goodles, so I had high hopes for this new release. I first prepared the Shella Good according to the package directions, filling the cup with cold water to the line, then microwaving it. After pouring in the cheese packet, I put the lid back on the cup.

Within moments of adding the sauce, I had myself a creamy, cheesy cup of noodles that tasted like homemade mac and cheese. Best quick lunch ever!

The next day I tried the Cheddy Mac, and although it was good, particularly for a microwavable mac and cheese, I felt like something was missing. So, I stirred in some extra garlic powder and a little pad of butter directly in the cup. Together, it amplified the creaminess, adding a touch of richness and seasoning. In a word: perfection.
