Olesya (@olesyafrolenko on TikTok and Instagram) showed up to Fordham University with zero intel on what room she’d been assigned, but she’d hoped for one thing: an incredible view of Manhattan. And somehow the dorm gods delivered, as the windows in front of her desk look right out onto a sparkling city skyline.
She complemented those vistas with fresh flowers (a little treat she buys herself on a regular basis!) posters of the very city she lives in, and the cutest vintage details that make her room the most aesthetically pleasing place for her and her friends to hang out.
Olesya’s Space
How’d you end up in this space? I was randomly assigned to this room at my university. I had a choice of this specific dorm because it had a view of Manhattan, and I was lucky to end up on a high floor. I love that my room is pretty spacious and has a great view.
Now that you’ve made the space your own, what specifically do you love about it? I love the way I decorated it and planned it out. Some unique details are that I always have some fresh flowers, the NYC posters, and the fan wall art.
What is your space best known for? My space is best known for being really clean and put-together. I also can’t forget the gorgeous view of Manhattan.
Olesya’s Style
Define your personal home style: It’s a mix of bohemian and Scandinavian style with details of vintage mirrors, posters, and lamps. My personal style is very chic and classy.
What’s your favorite element of your space? My favorite element is probably my salt lamp and my fan wall art. I also love my little posters that I got on the streets of NYC.
What’s your proudest DIY or product hack? My favorite was finding “dupes” for expensive decor.
Olesya’s Budget
In an effort to remove the stigma associated with talking about money in college, we’re asking students to share how they plan and budget for their space.
How much does your housing cost per semester? About$ 5,000.
Do you pay for your living expenses? No.
How do you earn your income? Work study.
How much did it cost to decorate your space? About $800.
Do you have anyone helping to fund your decor? My parents.
What was your biggest splurge for this space? The biggest splurge was buying all the storage bins and necessities like vacuums, lamps, etc.
Olesya’s Advice
How do you keep your space clean? I do “clean Sundays” where I clean my room and do laundry. I also have an air purifier and a cute vacuum.
What was your biggest challenge in decorating your space? The biggest challenge was to fit all the clothes and other items, as there is not enough space provided. I wish the room could have been bigger.
