It’s been nearly five years since we first met Emily Cooper as she was jetting off to France in the premiere of Emily in Paris. The show immediately divided the internet into two camps: “this is ridiculous” and “okay, I’ll watch 10 episodes right now.” I’m somewhere in the middle. Since then, Emily has donned couture-level outfits, navigated office politics, and made catastrophic dating decisions — all while delivering some very memorable quotes

But it’s not only Emily’s best moments that have stuck in my head; so many people she’s encountered in her new life in Europe have left a mark.

Now that all of Season 5 is streaming on Netflix (and it’s been renewed for Season 6!), I rounded up some of the best quotes from all five seasons to help you remember why Emily Cooper is the expat you want to keep watching. Consider this your emotional and narrative refresher as you see how Emily takes on Rome.

Warning: Some spoilers for all seasons ahead.

The Best Emily in Paris Season 1 Quotes

Here, we meet the show’s main character, Emily Cooper, who’s dropped straight into Paris with big ambition, bright outfits, and absolutely no idea what she’s getting into. Her nonstop optimism runs straight into Sylvie’s zero-nonsense work energy, Mindy’s blunt honesty, Camille’s effortlessly cool sensibility, and Gabriel’s immediate romantic confusion. The Best Emily in Paris Season 2 Quotes

In Season 2, Emily is no longer the new girl in town, but she still doesn’t have a full handle on her Parisian life. She has to face real consequences with Camille (Gabriel’s ex and Emily’s friend) over Gabriel, she’s seeing real tension at work, and has many questions about whether or not Paris is just a fun detour in her life. Emily flirts with the idea of a less dramatic relationship with Alfie, Mindy continues to carry both the humor and the hard truths, and Sylvie stays effortlessly brutal. These quotes show Emily growing up just enough to realize she might already be in too deep.

  1. “I think most girls would forgive you. But a French girl? Nuh-uh.” —Mindy (Season 2)
  2. “It doesn’t matter what language we’re speaking. I don’t believe a word coming out of your mouth.” —Camille (Season 2)
  3. “This isn’t just a fun year abroad anymore. This is your life.” —Mindy (Season 2)

  9. “Emily, you’ve got the rest of your life to be as dull as you wish, but while you’re here, fall in love, make mistakes, leave a disastrous trip in your wake.” —Sylvie (Season 2)
  10. “You are not making a major life decision based on a manipulative pinky swear.”  —Mindy (Season 2)
  11. “You go to St. Tropez to party, not to work. It’s like going to Ibiza to do your taxes.” —Luc (Season 2)
  12. “Paris is built on a fantasy, and I just happen to be able to see right through it.” —Alfie Peterson (Season 2)
