This Dollar Tree Packing Hack Will Make Moving into Your Dorm Room So Much Easier
As someone who just moved into a new house, I know how hard it can be to stay organized. From packing up your old room to trying to decide what to keep and what to toss, moving can get super-overwhelming — fast. On top of that, when you load all your belongings into identical-looking boxes or bags, unpacking gets confusing. That’s why when I came across this TikTok video by Emma Villaneda (@thecraftstudioco), I wished I’d discovered it a few weeks earlier.
The Best Way to Organize Your Boxes During a Move
In the video, Villaneda takes us to Dollar Tree and walks us through an easy, cheap tape hack for staying organized while moving.
All you need to do is to purchase different-colored tapes and assign each color to a category in your space. From there, make a key with a scrap piece of cardboard so you (and anybody helping you move) can remember your organizing strategy. Then, tape away! Close boxes with the correct color so you know which area they belong in, or tag furniture so whoever is helping you move can save their questions.
The rolls of tape are just $1.50 apiece, and you can choose from the five colors available on the Dollar Tree website.

The hacks don’t stop there, though. People in the comment section also started weighing in with their own helpful moving tricks. One commenter suggests strategically numbering your boxes as you pack them: “Box #1 is what I packed first, so it is what I unpack last. That way essentials get addressed first and little stuff can be saved for later.”
Another commenter recommends ordering colored masking tape so there isn’t duct tape residue on your things. (Be especially careful of this when placing tape on furniture.)
Whether you’re moving for the first time or the 50th, this tape hack will help you stay calm and organized within the chaos of packing up your life.
