When you’re shopping for home essentials, coasters are often forgotten about until you spot a ring-shaped stain on your table. Whether you don’t own any at all, or are looking to upgrade a plain coaster set you use all the time, this DIY from TikTok is the solution — and gives you something fun to look at every time you pick up your glass.

In a recent TikTok video, user Maya (@mayaxsymone) shows you how to create your own custom “Domino Coasters,” which are great for setting drinks on top of, but also double as unique decor, whether you keep them in your living room or kitchen. Plus, dominoes are a classic table game, so they’ll give your space a retro and chic vibe. Commenters on Maya’s TikTok loved the final result, calling it “so cute!!!” and “the most creative.” One person even said, “making this immediately.”

How to Make Your Dominoes Coasters

The best part of this DIY is that it won’t cost much if you already own dominoes. If not, no need to worry — your local thrift store will likely have a set for cheap as well. To make this DIY at home, you’ll need to get the following:

Supplies:

Step 1

Once you’ve got your items, you’re ready to get going. Using scissors, measure and cut your cork roll to fit 8 of your dominos in a 4×4 formation. You can use a ruler to help you measure this and get straight lines.

Step 2

Once your cork roll is separated into squares, hot-glue your dominoes on top. They can be in perfect numerical order if you like, or random. When they’re dried, trim any excess cork with your scissors, and soon enough you’ll have a new set of coasters to use on the daily.

Step 3

If you’d like to customize these coasters, you can choose different sets of dominoes that feature different colors, or paint on them yourself. You can also apply glitter if you’re into more colorful, flashy decor. Just be sure to apply a protective coat of resin or paint seal afterwards to keep it in place.

Buy Fun Pre-Made Coasters

If you’re not a big fan of DIYing, or just aren’t ready to let go of your precious set of dominoes, there’s an option available online that’ll give you similar vibes.

This set of black dominoes is a moodier version compared to the classic playing pieces, but it’s a great option if you want it all put together.
