I’m Used to Sleeping With My AC at 67 Degrees — This Cooling Comforter Let Me Turn It Off
I’m the kind of person who needs to sleep under a comforter year-round. Even in the middle of summer, sleeping with just a sheet doesn’t feel quite as comfortable. The problem is that most comforters I’ve used do exactly what I don’t want when it’s hot: they trap heat.
My solution has always been to crank my AC down to 67 degrees and sleep under a super-heavy comforter anyway. I love that cozy, almost weighted feeling when I sleep, but it comes with a pretty annoying trade-off: I tend to sweat under all that weight, only to feel like I’m freezing the second I get out of bed.
So when Cozy Bliss offered to send me its Cooling Comforter to test, I was curious to see whether I could stay cool at night while still sleeping under a comforter. As soon as I started using it, I noticed it’s much lighter than the bedding I’m used to — which definitely took some time to adjust to — but after sleeping with it for two weeks, it completely changed my usual summer sleep setup.
What Is the Cozy Bliss Cooling Comforter?
The Cozy Bliss Cooling Comforter is designed specifically for hot sleepers. It uses an “advanced Q-Max > 0.45 cooling fabric,” meaning it quickly transfers heat from your body to the comforter — according to the product listing on Amazon, the comforter works by “lowering skin temperature by 4–9°F for an instantly cooler feel.” Unlike the thick, heavy comforter I normally sleep with, the lightweight, breathable Cozy Bliss filing is made with a 100% poly down alternative that creates a “3D hollow structure with high elasticity and compression,” per the product listing, and it helps keep your blanket fluffy all night long.
The fabric itself is incredibly smooth and almost silky, and I noticed the cooling effect as soon as I touched it. It’s also OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, which means it “passed safety tests for the presence of harmful substances,” according to the official certification website.
To reap the full cooling benefits, use this comforter without a duvet or a top sheet so the cooling fabric comes directly in contact with your skin while you sleep. The comforter comes in 10 colors, including purple, sky blue, khaki, and gray, so you can match it to your room’s color scheme. There are also six sizes to choose from. For this review, I tested a cream, queen-size comforter for two weeks during the summer.
Why I Love the Cozy Bliss Cooling Comforter
For the first few nights, I’ll admit that the the lightweight Cozy Bliss comforter took some getting used to because I’m so accustomed to a heavy comforter almost hugging me while I sleep. But by the end of my two weeks of testing, I had completely adjusted to it — staying covered all night without sweating quickly became more important to me than having that extra weight.
That’s ultimately what impressed me most. This comforter didn’t just feel cool when I first got into bed; it actually changed the way I used my air conditioner at night. Instead of keeping my bedroom at 67 degrees to compensate for my heavy bedding, I could sleep comfortably without blasting the AC.
The difference became clear when I tried something I would never do with my regular comforter: I completely turned off my AC on a warm summer night. I fully expected to wake up sweaty, having to turn it back on at some point, but I slept comfortably through the entire night. The comforter stayed noticeably cool against my skin, and I never got that hot, stuffy feeling I’m used to getting underneath heavier bedding.
If you’re someone who sleeps hot but, like me, can’t imagine giving up a comforter during the summer, the Cozy Bliss Cooling Comforter is genuinely like the best of both worlds. (It’s also great for the fall and spring or if you live in a place where it’s warm year-round.) I love that I can still curl up under a comforter every night, but now I’m not waking up sweaty or relying on a freezing-cold bedroom just to stay comfortable.
