My jewelry collection is, by far, one of the trickiest things to keep organized in my dorm room. I’ve found that my necklaces and bracelets get absolutely tangled whether they’re in boxes or even on hanging jewelry stands. Not only that, but I have to dig through all of my accessories whenever I want to find a specific piece of jewelry, which can be such a time-consuming task that leaves me with even more jumbled chains than when I started.

Luckily, last semester my friends and I devised a hack that saved us — and our favorite necklaces and bracelets — from all those knots. The best part? It doubled as chic wall art for our room.

How to Use The Corkboard Dorm Jewelry Storage Hack

When my roommates and I moved into our new dorm, we noticed that our room came with three relatively large corkboards attached to the wall, and we knew we wanted to find a fun way to use them. I originally planned to use mine to pin up mementos, but one of my roommates had another genius idea. Using a box of pins, she pushed them about three-quarters of the way into the cork, and then began hanging her jewelry on the exposed part of the pins. In the end, she had the cutest necklace-covered corkboard that allowed her to grab all of her favorite pieces with ease whenever she wanted. Soon enough, the rest of us followed suit and each had matching jewelry corkboards.

While the mini gallery walls of jewelry looked great even with the regular thumbtacks we had, this quick customization could level up if you opt for a more specialized push pin, like these sweet flower ones or these simple round gold ones (you could also go for silver if that’s what matches most of your jewelry).

TikTok user savannahdaniele had a pretty similar idea, but she used the corkboard to also store photos, phone cases, and stickers for more of a collage look. She also used a corkboard that had been painted white with an elegant frame wrapped around it, giving it even more of a wall art look, which I’d love to try.

No matter how far you take the craft, the secret to detangled jewelry is just a box of push pins away.
