Neve White’s top priority when decorating her dorm room at the College of Coastal Georgia was making it as comfy as she could. Thanks to smart decor choices and lots of texture, the freshman psychology major’s space has a minimal aesthetic but maximum homey, cozy vibes. Neve (@neverosalie on TikTok) also infused her space with retro-inspired accents reminiscent of the late ’60s and early ’70s — namely, a leopard rug and a hanging disco ball planter.

Neve’s Space

How’d you end up in this space? I found this space through my college. I had to live in a hotel my first semester, due to overbooking, so when I got told I would be in a dorm room my second semester, I had to make it as cozy as possible. My first impression was, “Wow, this is pretty small …” But with some thinking, I came up with ways to turn a small space into more of a comfy nook.

Now that you’ve made the space your own, what specifically do you love about it? I really love the bed setup, and my posters I just recently added to the wall. My desk is my safe space, so I decorated it with things like perfumes, makeup products, and miscellaneous trinkets. The closet was originally open without a door or anything. I covered it with a curtain, and it makes it feel a lot homier. I really love my little space. It makes me happy and comfortable!

What’s your space best known for? My posters and the rug. Also, the nice ambient lighting!

Neve’s Style

Define your personal home style: I would say I’m inspired by the late ’60s, early ’70s. I like to give my room a vintage vibe. I love mid-century modern stuff.

What’s your favorite element of your space? My favorite thing about my space is the sunlight and the posters on my wall.

What’s your proudest DIY or product hack? Hanging a curtain over my closet!

Neve’s Budget

To remove the stigma associated with talking about money in college, we’re asking students to share how they plan and budget for their space.

How much does your housing cost per semester? Around $3,000.

Do you have anyone helping to fund your housing? Yes

Do you pay for your living expenses? No

How much did it cost to decorate your space? I’d estimate $450.

Do you have anyone helping to fund your decor? Yes

What was your best budget find for this space? The little lights above my posters I got in a three-pack for $20! They are battery-powered, too, which helps a lot.

What was your biggest splurge for this space? My rug! It was around $100.

Neve’s Advice

What was your biggest challenge in decorating your space? Definitely the small space. It’s hard to incorporate a lot of cute items into a small space, especially being able to store all of your stuff, but it’s doable!

What’s your best tip for cleaning a small space? I try to vacuum every day and clean my sheets at LEAST once a week. I keep it smelling nice and wipe down any surfaces each week.
