A trip to the thrift store is the perfect way to escape the summer heat for a few hours. The most satisfying part, however, is that moment when you stumble upon a great find for a low price. So many thrifted goods have the potential to be leveled up with a fun DIY — it’s all about seeing the potential in some unconventional items.

In a recent video, TikTok user Tina Le Mac (@tinalemac) decided to give some thrifted cheeseboards a chance at new life by turning them into stunning pieces of wall art for her home.

How to Turn a Cheeseboard into Wall Art

The best part about this DIY is that it only requires a couple of items, making it the perfect, easy summer craft. All you need is:

Supplies:

After using a piece of sandpaper to smooth out the board, Tina applies a couple of coats of white paint to the center of the cheeseboard. As it’s drying, the creator peels apart the cutest set of ginger jar-printed paper napkins, so that the printed layer is separate from the blank layer. Then, Tina cuts out the specific sections of the print that will be displayed on the board and prepares to modge-podge.

If you’ve never modge-podged before, don’t worry. It’s a simple process that only requires a few steps. When your paint is dry, apply a layer of Mod Podge on the cheeseboard. Then take a piece of the napkin and press it onto the surface, smoothing it out gently to avoid air bubbles or wrinkles. When it’s secure, add another thin coat of Mod Podge on top of the napkin, and around the paint, to seal it.

If you want to hang this piece the “renter-friendly” way (a.k.a. perfect for your dorm room!), like Tina does, just add a piece of Duck Nano-Grab Double-Sided Tape to the back of your board in order to stick it on the wall.

If you’re looking to add this item to your kitchen, but aren’t a huge DIY-er, Etsy also has some incredible cheeseboard tile designs that capture the essence of this piece.
