I’ve lived in an on-campus apartment at NYU for two years and have misplaced my keys far more times than I’d like to admit. The result: I get locked out, I have to be let in by campus security, and worst of all, I have to pay $75 for replacement keys. Finally creating a designated spot for storing my keys in my apartment solved all my problems.

Whether you’re running between classes, the office, and the grocery store, it’s way too easy to forget where you’ve set down your keys, which is why a conveniently placed key holder is one of the easily overlooked but very important first mini projects I’d recommend doing in your new apartment.

It can be a simple Command hook by the front door or a super cute trinket dish on a shelf — there are all sorts of key holders designed to make your life easier. Here are 13 of my favorites.

13 Best Key Racks

A good key rack will save you so much time (and, if you’re anything like me, money!) on your way out of your apartment. Plus, with such chic options available, you can pick one that doubles as the perfect piece of home decor for your entryway.

It has three hooks and can hold up to 5 pounds, so you can use the other hooks to hold a light jacket or empty tote bag, too.
