See all the dorm must-haves — from mattress toppers to storage — that real college students swear by for making your space cozy and functional. Check out the full list of Dorm Therapy Awards 2025 winners!

Buying a comforter might not be the most exciting to-do on your dorm shopping list, but it’s a must-have for a comfortable and cozy dorm bed. While some students choose to have a duvet cover and an insert, using a comforter in a dorm can be easier since it’s just one piece. In our survey, students overwhelmingly recommended a comforter over a duvet cover, and there’s one they especially loved.

Selecting the best dorm room comforter can feel like a big commitment because it’ll always be visible on your bed, which makes our winner extra versatile because of how many colors it comes in. There’s basically a comforter color to match any room’s design — and it can double as a duvet insert if you totally change your mind about your bedding.

Why You Should Trust Us

Dorm Therapy is dedicated to helping students at every point of their college experience, and that includes shopping for their dorm! We’re a website powered by real college student contributors (who have recently experienced dorm living) and experienced editors, creating service-first content about navigating life at school and sharing vetted product recommendations for dorms and college apartments.

How We Chose the Winning Comforter

We went straight to the source to determine our winners for the Dorm Therapy Awards 2025, surveying more than 360 college students and recent grads to learn about their absolute favorite products they used in their dorm.

For the winning comforter, we first looked at how many students recommended each comforter/duvet set. Once we found the most recommended picks, we looked at the average ratings — students rated their recommendation on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being a product they loved and would “definitely recommend.” To find our winner, we chose the comforter with the highest average rating.

The Winner: Bedsure Twin/Twin XL Comforter Set

The fan-favorite comforter set comes from a brand I’d never heard of, but it has so many options and got an average rating of 9. This product comes with a comforter and one pillow sham, and it’s available in a slew of colors (21 twin XL options, to be exact), just like the winning sheets, which makes it perfect for any room color scheme.

If you decide you would prefer having a duvet cover, this comforter can also work as a duvet insert and has corner loops for easy fastening inside of the cover. (Tying the duvet cover to the insert’s corner loops can prevent the insert from shifting.) It is 100% polyester, but students and Amazon reviewers alike note that it’s “airy” and “breathable.”

For a twin size bed, the twin/twin XL size comforter is the perfect fit, but if you’re looking for a floor-length drape, the full/queen size will do just that.

Here’s what students said about the Bedsure Twin/Twin XL Comforter Set
