If there’s one thing that’s true about your college packing list, it’s that it probably included *a lot* of tech. Almost everything I own has to be charged — often. And that’s only a minor exaggeration.

When I was planning what to take to college before my freshman year, I struggled to figure out how I was going to charge all my devices at once. There were only a few outlets in my dorm room for all of my and my roommate’s charging cables and light fixtures. Plus, many dorms prohibit power strips.

And that’s when I realized I already owned a great dorm option: a charging station!

I have the Intoval Charging Station, which is listed for $38.92 on Amazon and comes in white, black, green, purple, and blue. (I’ve got the white!) A charging station like this one will come in clutch because it can charge three things at once: your iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch. One plug charges it all!

It’s so convenient to be able to charge all my devices at once every night so I don’t have to worry about not having enough outlets. And this charging station in particular is sleek, compact, and minimalist — with a fun burst of color if you choose one.

Plus, according to Amazon, this charger works for more than just iPhones — so if you have a Samsung or Google Pixel, for example, take a look. Amazon also shows that it comes with a two-pronged charger, so you don’t need to stress about having an available three-pronged outlet in your room.

To be transparent, in the end, I wasn’t able to use this charging station in my dorm. My room’s wiring ended up being super wonky: The main light switch was apparently connected to every power source in my dorm room — every time I turned off the main light, the power to the outlets stopped, too. But I’ve used it at home, and it works great!

I’ve charged my iPhone 13, Apple Watch SE, and first-generation AirPods with the station, and everything fully charges overnight! I think this is just as convenient and effective as using a power strip — probably more so since you avoid all those annoying wires.

It’s also a very compact design, so it likely won’t take up even half of your nightstand. If you wanted to, you could even hide it away in a drawer when you’re not using it.

Here are a few other suggestions for charging stations to consider for your dorm:

Even though her heart belongs to the ocean, the mountains are becoming a close contender. Her favorite part of living in Burlington, Vermont, for college is its unique coffee shops. Her perfect day would consist of going to a cute café in the morning, then spending the day at the beach swimming and reading, then ending the day by shopping and getting dressed up for a nice dinner downtown. Through Dorm Therapy, Isabel is excited to be a voice for young adults embarking on their college journeys and she hopes to make this big transition of life more comfortable for others in the same place as her.
